Soup/Split Pea

A: 1# dried split peas
B: 3qt water
    1 ham bone
    1t thyme
    1 bay leaf
    1t salt
    2t pepper
C: 2 onion, sliced thin
    4c garlic
    2 carrots, sliced thin
    1T canola oil
D: Pork/ham, chopped
1. Soup (A) in cold water overnight.
2. Drain, add (B), and bring to simmer.
3. Saute (C) in a heavy pot, add to pot. Deglaze with some liquid from the
    pot.
4. Simmer for 90 minutes, blend with an immersion blender.
5. Add (D), cook for 60 more minutes.
